WatchDOGS is a family & community education initiative. WatchDOGS are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father figures (21+) who volunteer for at least part of one day each year at an official WatchDOGS school. While on campus, volunteers may help in the cafeteria or library, complete general door & safety checks, read with small groups of students, assist in the front office, etc. The possibilities are endless! Our goal is to provide positive male role models for the students and to provide an extra set of eyes and ears in our school security protocols. Please reach out to Courtney Cartlidge or Deric Dartez-Santos with questions at 512-841-2400. A volunteer meet up is set for Wednesday August 23rd at 7:45AM to 8:15AM in the cafeteria. Please RSVP @ bit.ly/MillsDogs
Lunchtime Attendants help students open bags of chips, put straws in Capri Suns, and keep students focused on nourishing themselves. If you like loud environments, giggles galore, and the potential to quell high jinks, then this is volunteer opportunity for you. Use the Lunch Room sign up genius to pick a time!
Room Parents help facilitate communication between other parents and your child’s teacher. As a room parent, you will most likely solicit donations from parents for classroom parties and events, collect money for teacher gifts during holidays and Teacher Appreciation Week in May, organize volunteers for the classroom for events like field trips, and other tasks as decided by the teacher. Be a superhero to your kid and sign up to be a room parent.
Track and Field Coordinators work with Coaches Lindbergh, Smith and Cruz to organize events and raise funds for the PE department such as CATCH Night and Field Day and other PE projects. Most time commitment is concentrated around Track & Field Day in late March/early April. If you have any interest, please email lisa.lindbergh@austinisd.org for details.
Campus Beautification Committee AKA The Mills Dirt Club works almost every weekend cleaning up brush, cutting the grass, and just being an all around superhero team for the school. Like to garden? Like to get outside? This is the volunteer opportunity for you! Check out Brad Bressler's posts on our Mill's Facebook page for details and updates.
Website Coordinator works with our Campus Innovation Coordinator to update the Mills website with current information. The volunteer would make weekly updates after the Principal’s Newsletter is released on Sundays. The time commitment is 30 minutes a week. Contact sara.r.sanchez@austinisd.org for more information.
