Physical Education Philosophy
The Physical Education Department at Mills Elementary believes students come first. Safety is our number one priority. Our program is student centered and promotes the opportunity for a positive learning environment as well as experience the benefits of a physically active and healthy lifestyle. The goal is to educate, encourage and help students to improve their physical fitness. It is an inclusive course where all participants are welcome, encouraged and feel safe. All are welcome and we adapt to all skill levels and accommodations.
The Physical Education Department will promote goal-setting, teamwork, respect, and responsibility. Our coaches are here to provide motivation for students to accomplish goals, work well with their peers, respect themselves, and take on responsibility. Students will gain valuable personal and social skills that will benefit them for the rest of their lives. We teach basic movement patterns to help students build a solid base which allows for safe participation in lifelong physical activity.
The Physical Education Department will facilitate the curriculum through effective teaching strategies, engaging lessons and effective evaluation. Lastly, we strive to make physical education fun and exciting for our lifelong active learners!
